Wayfinding
Worthington, OH

Project Overview

Worthington, Ohio, one of the Midwest’s first planned communities, has successfully preserved its historical charm while evolving into a vibrant destination for businesses, residents, and visitors. With a strong sense of place and a thriving downtown, Worthington sought to enhance its brand and wayfinding experience to make navigation more intuitive and inviting for all.

In response, a citywide steering committee initiated a comprehensive wayfinding project aimed at improving access to key destinations, parking, and pedestrian corridors. Recognizing the need for a system that balanced modern functionality with the city’s traditional aesthetic, Worthington partnered with Guide Studio to develop a strategic and visually cohesive wayfinding plan.

Guide Studio collaborated with a diverse group of local stakeholders to ensure the wayfinding system reflected the community’s unique character. The resulting sign program integrates contemporary design with classic elements, reinforcing Worthington’s historic identity while providing clear, user-friendly navigation. The system includes directional signs, parking identification, and pedestrian-focused signage to create a seamless and welcoming experience.

Designed to serve walkers, cyclists, and drivers alike, the new wayfinding system improves accessibility while maintaining the city’s timeless appeal. The City of Worthington chose to implement the program over five years, ensuring a thoughtful, phased rollout that allows for integration across various districts. As the plan continues to unfold, the new signage strengthens community pride, supports local businesses, and enhances the overall experience for residents and visitors.
