Placemaking
Village of Grand River, OH

Project Overview

We are passionate about the art of placemaking, and Guide Studio’s role in the Village of Grand River’s Waterfront Entertainment District Vision Plan was to incorporate our expertise in place branding and wayfinding to support AECOM Cleveland in design and strategic planning for this riverfront community.

Working with our project partners, we embarked on a comprehensive planning exercise that took into account a thorough analysis of the district’s existing conditions, engaging stakeholders and the public through online meetings and surveys, all to ensure that the final vision truly reflects the community’s desires and needs.

The Grand River Entertainment District has all the ingredients for success: a picturesque riverfront location, proximity to attractions like Headlands State Park and Mentor Marsh, existing entertainment venues, and a charming village atmosphere. Our placemaking strategies focused on enhancing these unique assets and developing a range of placemaking elements such as district gateways, visual elements like banners, creative crosswalks and murals, directionals to support navigation and orientation, and interpretive storytelling elements to communicate about the history and heritage of the district. . The final plan prioritizes public access to the waterfront, multi-modal transportation safety, increased business activity, and overall community pride.
