City Branding
Longmont, CO

Project Overview

Home to nearly 100,000 people, the independently-governed city of Longmont, CO blends rich urban amenities with small-town charm. Often characterized by a feisty personality, innovative spirit, and majestic Rocky Mountain views, this vibrant community continues to reach new heights in its pursuit of giving people a great place to live, work, and visit.
However, the city’s existing brand didn’t reflect its distinct values and vision. Longmont also needed to address concerns about losing its small-town appeal amidst growth. Their identity needed to connect their creative, forward-thinking personality with their warm community feel, embodying effective city branding.
Guided by new positioning that highlighted the community’s competitive advantages, the brand identity took on a fresh, modern look. The mark blends representations of Long’s Peak and flowing creeks to depict the city’s picturesque landscape. Comprehensive brand guidelines were developed to help city officials leverage and share the new identity while protecting its equity.
To further reinforce the brand, the City developed a comprehensive signage and wayfinding program for both the city and downtown, creating a cohesive system that welcomes and guides visitors. This program was paired with a detailed sign system and a sign standards manual specifically for Longmont’s park system and trails, ensuring consistency in wayfinding across all public spaces. The result is a unified and intuitive experience that enhances connectivity, reinforces identity, and strengthens Longmont’s sense of place.
