City Branding
Lawrence, KS

Project Overview

The City of Lawrence, Kansas, is a vibrant, multifaceted community shaped by a rich history and a deep commitment to inclusivity. Home to the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence is known for its thriving arts scene, a beloved downtown, and community events that foster a welcoming and connected atmosphere.

While the City had successfully maintained a visual identity, it struggled to fully articulate its values and vision in a way that resonated with residents and guided decision-making. Lawrence sought a brand that could serve as a unifying force—one that would not only enhance communication but also reflect the city’s leadership approach and aspirations for the future.

Guide Studio collaborated with city officials and community stakeholders to confront lingering perceptions, highlight Lawrence’s unique strengths, and establish a clear, authentic voice. This effort resulted in a refreshed and expanded identity that honors the city’s past while amplifying the character and values that define its future. As part of this initiative, we also worked to align the branding of the city’s police, fire, and transit departments, ensuring a cohesive and unified expression across all municipal services. The result is a brand that reinforces Lawrence’s commitment to being a supportive, inclusive community where individuals are respected, accepted, and empowered to be themselves.
