Guide Studio Celebrates 20 Years and Announces New President

Cleveland’s leading consultancy for places with people-traffic announces new leadership with 20th anniversary

CLEVELAND – September 5, 2017 – Guide Studio [formerly Studio Graphique] celebrates 20 years of strategic consulting for places and announces Cathy Fromet as the new President, effective September 1.

“We have grown and matured a lot over the past 20 years, and it’s been a natural evolution. This is the perfect time to make a shift in leadership,” says Rachel Downey, Founder/Owner and former President of Guide Studio.

Guide Studio works with destinations and places with people-traffic to create purposeful and positive experiences through strategic design, branding, marketing and wayfinding. The firm’s notable clients include Cleveland Indians, Heinen’s, Tri-C, The Cleveland Clinic, City of Oberlin and Sandusky among other widely visited destinations throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Earlier in the year, the firm announced a name change from Studio Graphique to Guide Studio – a name that better represents the company’s evolution and who they are today. Cathy Fromet reflects on the past with excitement for the future: “We have seen consistent steady growth, but the past several years have catapulted us forward.” Having added marketing and communications to their service offerings earlier this year, Fromet remarks, “Our markets change frequently, so we need to stay ahead of the curve. We’re starting to explore the potential impacts of driverless cars on wayfinding, and partnering with local firms to prepare for digital solutions to place-based experience. I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years will bring!”

With 14 years at Guide Studio and 20+ years of experience in consulting and placemaking, Cathy Fromet has been an active member of the American Planning Association and the We Plan Cleveland committee; she was the chapter president for SEGD Cleveland, and has developed wayfinding plans and brands for countless clients including, Progressive Field, University Circle, Shaker Square and University Hospitals, among others. “Cathy is a natural fit for the job,” says Downey. “Because of her diverse background and experience, she is very well-versed in the civic and institutional worlds and has held virtually every position in the company, which prepared her for this role.”

Having founded the firm in 1997, at age 25, Guide Studio is Downey’s life’s work. For Downey, the transition may take some initial adjustment, but she couldn’t be more excited for the future of the company. Although she is transitioning out of her current position, Downey will actively support Guide Studio as an advisor through her role as Founder/Owner. “I feel really good about this decision. Cathy is the best person for the job and I’m confident in her ability to lead the company into the future.”
